• Lower Firing Temperatures: Unlike traditional pottery fired at high temperatures to create a watertight seal, Raku pottery uses a rapid, low-heat technique. This beautiful process leaves the clay body slightly porous. While this enhances the visual aesthetic, it means the pot cannot hold liquids and isn't considered food safe.
• Water Permeability: Due to the porous nature of Raku pottery, it's not recommended for use as a vase. Water can seep through the clay, potentially damaging the piece and staining surfaces.
• Weather Limitations: The rapid temperature changes Raku pottery undergoes can make it susceptible to cracking in freezing temperatures. So, while these pots add a decorative touch indoors, they're not ideal for outdoor planters.
